History

When the anti-Communist revolution occurred in December 1989, one of the first changes we noticed happening in our daily lives — is that there were children — boys and girls — sleeping on the streets of Timisoara. The dirty, dizzy and sometimes aggressive boys and girls taught us that an abusive system laden with tyranny and neglect would allow abuse to happen. A parent could beat their child to death with no fear of retribution because no law would protect a child against their own parents, a mother could leave the maternity hospital and not take her baby home, an abandoned or abused child was nothing else but a file to be sent to an obscure institution.

These abused, underage girls became involved in prostitution, stealing for food and had emotional and behavioral issues beyond comprehension. These girls are God’s perfect creation. No one has the right to judge them for what they are. We as Christians have the responsibility to show them God’s unconditional love, to help them discover how special and important they are. Jesus does not care about their past – He can transform them from Delilah to Deborah, from a woman who uses her femininity to destroy, into a woman of God, a leader of her people.

God gave us a vision for a challenging new ministry and its name – DEBORAH HOUSE.

Vision

Our vision for Deborah House is not just to provide simple shelter but a spiritual one as well. These girls are not only victims of someone else’s abuse, but of poverty and starvation as well. Deborah House is about very young girls, condemned by society – even before they had a trial or lawyer – but forgiven, loved and redeemed by Jesus. We needed a facility to make a home for them, where they could find everything they did not receive from their own family. We believe the first and most important step toward their recovery is to remove them from this destructive environment to a place where they could discover the proper meaning of the word HOME. We hope to provide them will all the skills they need to live an independent and successful life…to begin the process of becoming the person God intended them to be.

Deborah House began in 1998. This ministry is not about building a new house, or renovating an old one. The house is merely a tool needed to accomplish the task God has put before us. It will provide a stable, nurturing and loving environment where their need for food, clothing, personal respect, security, and education will be satisfied. We believe Deborah House is about investing in people.

Deborah House – by God’s grace and your help, will make a difference in the lives of these young girls.
