Children at Risk

We believe every child born into the world is a gift from God, born with fresh potential. The circumstances a child is born into is no excuse to deprive a child of basic human rights to health care, education, proper nutrition, and freedom from abuse and exploitation. Our children’s social programs address these critical child welfare issues in Romania. Missio Link International Foundation (MLI) serves all children at risk, regardless of religion or ethnicity.

Deborah House provides a unique and critically needed sanctuary for severly abused girls, providing a healing sanctuary where hurt fades and is turned into hope.

Deborah House Center consists of two multifaceted residential care homes which provide a continuum of specialized treatment programs addressing the needs of Romania’s seriously abused girls.

The purpose of Deborah House is to offer rescue, sanctuary, therapy, counseling, education, and hope, in a Christian home environment, with the goal that each girl will reclaim her life from the shadow of her abuser.

Over the last seven years, Deborah House has successfully implemented post-trauma treatment programs for abused girls…programs that are unique within Romania. Providing much more than residential care, Deborah House assesses and treats both physical and sexual abuse, as well as related behavioral disorders. The foundation of the Deborah program is individual therapy, counseling, and intensive tutoring in both school work and vital social skills.

Harmony is an MLI ministry that reaches at-risk children from government institutions, juvenile prisons, and remote villages to bring Harmony into their lives.

The founders of Harmony, Doru and Rodica Racovicean, emerged from the long nightmare of communism to bring the Gospel through music and Bible stories not only to government ophanages, but also to a school for special needs children, and a juvenile prison.

Aspirations provides assistance to at-risk youth already known to MLI—girls from Deborah House or children in the Recas and Lugoj Harmony programs who will be most likely to succeed in Aspirations. Aspirations includes psychological, social skills, and family counseling, as well as basic family-unit financial and budget training, and some limited financial assistance. The program includes tutoring in job application and interview skills and some further job search assistance. University scholarships are made available to those individuals who have demonstrated the desire to work and to succeed academically.

The end goal for each Aspirations participant is to become a functioning, independent, and self-supporting adult, fully integrated into Romanian society.
